Nithya Rajendran

Nithya Rajendran is dual Indian classical vocalist trained for many decades in both Carnatic and Hindustani vocal music.

She is the founder of Music Vruksh, an umbrella venture that espouses the healing and mood-elevating powers of Indian Classical Music and its accessibility to the lay ear through interactive concerts, lecture demonstrations and classes.

She is a multiple times Tedx speaker, including at IIT Jodhpur and CMRIT Hyderabad. Nithya has been a columnist on music and wellness in The Daily Guardian and has been featured in many media platforms and publications including Outlook, The Week, CNBC TV 18, India Today TV, Hans India, Thrive Global and The Citizen among countless others.

She was featured among the few ‘Women in Music’ achievers in India’s only music magazine ‘The Score Magazine’. She has been hosted in podcasts like ‘The About Her Show’, ‘Lifemeet’, and ‘Sangam Talks’.

She has many performances to her credit, including at the International Festival of Spiritual India, World Vegetarian Congress, World Trade Center Mumbai, where she has explored the above-mentioned themes. She is a high-grade panel artist with All India Radio in both Hindustani and Carnatic music with many concert airings to her credit. She hild a certificate in music therapy from Nada school of music therapy.

Early Training, accolades and tutelage

She had trained under illustrious gurus across both forms including guidance for Carnatic music under Padmashree Awardee Smt. Gayatri Sankaran, Shri Poorna Pragna Rao and Smt Vijaya Natarajan among and Smt Thara Vijayaraghavan in Mumbai. She was selected for an exclusive workshop by the illusionist Shri T.V.Gopalakrishnan in her younger years and has received prestigious scholarships for Carnatic music from CCRT and from the renowned cultural body Bharat Kalachar. She is Currently under the tutelage of top grade artist Shri. T.N.Ashok.

In Hindustani music She has trained under the illustrious Smt. Dhanshree Pandit Rai in her early years followed by Smt. Usha Tikekar Deshpande and Smt. Shuchita Athalekar.

She is Currently under the guidance of Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, the grand nephew of one of the founders of the Kirana Gharana Ustaad Abdul Wahid Khan. She secured a rank and distinction for Hindustani classical music from Mumbai University and was offered a scholarship. She has in the past represented her state nationally in many music competions and has won a national level prize for semi classical music.
